The Saudi 13 Squadron, an F-15C squadron commanded by a Saudi Prince, graciously hosted the 1st Wing in the initial days of the deployment

The Airfield was a major staging point for much-needed ground troops. The 1st Wing arived on August 9th with no US ground troops between them and the Iraqi army, massed on the border 70 miles away.
